Recent studies, like the one carried out by the Tufts University and presented at the Conference Nutrition 2024 of the American Society for Nutrition in Chicago, show that a healthy diet since childhood can maintain the brain healthy up until old age. This study, one of the few to analyse a long period of time, involved 3.059 British adults, monitored since childhood through the National Survey of Health and Development.  The results showed that those who had a balanced nutrition also had greater cognitive abilities, better working memory and faster information processing. These data support plenty of other research that highlights how a healthy diet can prevent cognitive decline and neurodegenerative diseases like Alzheimer’s.

Eating better to Slow Down Ageing

Starting to eat healthily as soon as possible is critical to ensure a long and healthy life.  It is essential to know which food and drinks can compromise our longevity.  Reducing the amount of harmful food can contribute to slowing down the ageing process. Among the main culprits are alcoholic drinks, processed meat and fried food, which should be eaten cautiously.  This food doesn’t just influence our physical well-being, but can also cause health problems in the long term. Combining a healthy diet to an active lifestyle, including regular physical activity and stimulating intellectual activities,  is crucial to keep in shape. In this way, we get to enjoy greater vitality and well-being over time. Investing in one’s nutrition and lifestyle is one of the best choices that we can make for our future.
